Portland Pushing Forward on Truck Safety

The Bureau of Planning and Sustainability is launching a pilot program and engaging companies that work directly with the city. Over the next several months they are asking 30 companies to participate in a pilot program involving truck side guards. Truck Side Guards are a vehicle safety device designed to protect the most vulnerable: pedestrians, bicyclists and motor cyclists from going under the a large vehicle in side impact collisions and being run over by the rear tire.

Eventually Portland would like to see all qualifying vehicles operating in the city limits to have side guards. This is a big step towards a city wide mandate. Now would be a good time to get involved if you are a private company.
